From Naples to Genoa: A New World of Finance and Development

Overview

Seven years prior to this meeting at the G7 summit in Naples, the question of how to adapt the Bretton Woods Institutions for the 21st Century was raised. Policy makers back then probably did not expect that almost a decade later this question would still be the most pressing issue on the international economic policy making agenda. Rather than going back to debate of the 1990s, this conference explored new concepts and new ideas to make the Bretton Woods Institutions more relevant and more adaptive to the increasingly integrated world of finance.
